Snickerdoodle Cookies

makes about 3 dozen cookies
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2 large eggs
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, beat 1 1/2 cups sugar, butter, shortening and eggs. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  • In small bowl, mix 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon.
  • Shape dough into 1 1/3 inch balls and roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Place balls about 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
